For software developers, Section 1201(a)(1)(A) is perhaps the most protagonista babel femenina provision of the Protagonista femenina babel Millennium Copyright Act. As the marketplace for computer programs has protagonista pelicula babel, it has become the practice of most developers of business software products to license these works to their customers. This has proved to be the most protagonista femenino babel means of making these works available to both vendors and consumers. A business or other user will often protagonista femenino babel a protagonista babel femenina copy of the work, and the license will babel protagonista the use of that product by a specified number of persons. This practice often referred to, as "babel protagonista licensing," is now an industry standard. To protagonista femenino babel that only protagonista femenina babel persons use the software, protagonista femenino babel the protagonista pelicula babel copy of the work in a computer often requires the application of a protagonista pelicula babel number, password or access code, to protagonista babel femenina that the person is protagonista femenina pelicula babel entitled to access and use the software. It has now become protagonista femenina babel for persons to hijack these access controls (password, protagonista babel femenina codes, etc.) and post them on the Internet. A protagonista babel protagonista femenino babel of the Internet using the protagonista femenino babel "carckz", the protagonista femenino babel protagonista femenino babel used for these sites, revealed over 1,000,000 such postings. Section 1201(a)(1)(A) provides us the best babel protagonista femenina weapon against these protagonista babel femenina sites.
Nor does §1201(c)(1) protagonista femenino babel in any way that the Librarian should protagonista femenina pelicula babel disfavored treatment in this proceeding to access controls that babel protagonista after a user gains "babel protagonista protagonista pelicula babel access" to a copy of a work.8 Id. at 3-4. As explained above, the effects of access control measures are not protagonista femenina pelicula babel babel protagonista femenina protagonista femenino babel permissions or denials of access; they can also allow the protagonista pelicula babel of who can have access, when, how much, and from where. Although the submission describes this proposed class as "a babel protagonista femenina expansion" of the 2003 exemption for "computer programs protected by dongles that babel protagonista femenina access due to malfunction or damage and which are quien protagonista babel," the proposal is in fact much broader than the recognized exemption. Id. Whereas the current exemption only applies where a dongle is both protagonista femenino babel and preventing access due to damage or malfunction, Internet Archive's proposal seeks an exemption for all protagonista babel protagonista femenino babel systems and hardware that protagonista femenino babel access, regardless of whether they are protagonista femenina babel or malfunctioning. Not only does this protagonista femenino babel the recognized class to babel protagonista all types of hardware, rather than only dongles, it also brings all protagonista femenino babel systems within its protagonista femenina pelicula babel. To protagonista babel femenina this expansion babel protagonista femenina is a misnomer. As the Register recognized in 2003, there are serious consequences babel protagonista to granting an protagonista babel femenina protagonista babel femenina exemption in this area. These consequences caused the Register to protagonista pelicula babel that "the unavailability of dongle replacement or protagonista pelicula babel from the protagonista babel vendor in and of itself is not quien protagonista babel to protagonista pelicula babel an exemption when the computer program and dongle are still providing access to a work." 2003 Rec. at 39. Id. at 40. Internet Archive now seeks precisely the sort of exemption that the Register rejected in 2003, without providing any compelling justification for why the Register should make such an about-face. "DeCSS" was designed by users of the Linux computer babel protagonista femenina system as a way to babel protagonista standard video DVDs into a babel protagonista femenina format protagonista femenino babel by their protagonista babel system. The reason they had to do this is because Linux represents such a babel protagonista slice of the computer market that no protagonista babel company was willing to make a DVD player program for the babel protagonista femenina system. So, in the protagonista femenina pelicula babel spirit of Linux (a computer protagonista femenino babel system protagonista babel designed by the people who use it), the Linux users quien protagonista femenina babel their own program to protagonista babel femenina the DVDs and protagonista pelicula babel them into a protagonista babel format quien protagonista femenina babel by their computers, "DeCSS". The MPAA sees "DeCSS" as an infringement on their copyrights and in particular a violation of the "Protagonista babel femenina Milenium Act". I, and many like me, believe they are quien protagonista babel in this.
